The Roadmap
How do you get from where you are, to where you need to be?
Recognizing the Resources You Have
Establishing a meaningful legacy begins with understanding where you are and where you want to go.
Many people struggle with the belief that they “don’t have enough.” Biblical wisdom teaches that seeking God’s kingdom ensures provision. The challenge is not a lack of resources but how they are managed. Waste and thoughtless spending dissipates what could be invested into bettering lives.
Eliminating Waste and Poor Spending Habits
One of the first steps toward financial wisdom is recognizing and eliminating waste. Resources can be squandered in three ways: wasting, spending, and investing.
Many decisions are driven by habit or impulse rather than thoughtful consideration. Even daily small expenses—like coffee—can add up to thousands of dollars annually. Simple changes like cutting back on impulse purchases can free up resources.
Spending Wisely: Value Over Status
Spending wisely requires distinguishing between frugality and being cheap.
It is essential to evaluate whether extra spending adds genuine value. Similarly, indulging in luxury should be a conscious decision rather than an emotional one. The key is to ensure that each purchase is driven by genuine value, rather than societal expectations or the temptation of unnecessary items simply because they are “on sale.”
Investing in Purpose and Legacy
Beyond financial management, a greater question remains: What is the purpose of this life?
Scripture teaches that every individual has a God-given mission shaped by experiences, challenges, and opportunities. When financial priorities are optimized, there is often more than enough to invest in meaningful causes. Many people assume early retirement will lead to happiness, but maintaining purposeful work can offer financial independence and mental well-being while creating a lasting legacy.
Building a Legacy That Echoes in Eternity
“What we do in life echoes in eternity.” (Gladiator, 2000 – Universal Pictures)
By managing resources wisely, eliminating waste, spending intentionally, and investing in meaningful work and charity, individuals can create a legacy that echoes beyond their lifetime. Being truly rich is not measured by accumulation but by the ability to make a difference in the lives of others, starting now.
